the seasons turn but I cannot tell when
and well, these are our times
so sitting by the water I wait
under the shade of a mulberry tree, ripening
in the company of a red-breasted hummingbird
and a clever young lizard, I watch
as the world unfolds around me
and there are so many things to learn, I know
though we say we have no time
while we huddle together with blind eyes
and they say the moment a leaf falls is a rare sight —
but that’s because they never stopped to watch.
